In 1998 Raccoon City was subjected to a series of cannibalistic suicides. Raccoon City’s Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S) has been ordered to look into the source of the murders.
S.T.A.R.S Bravo team are sent on a mission to investigate these murders further. Rebecca Chambers a bravo team member teams up with a Billy Coen, a convict on the run from the police. The two of them come across the origins on the T-Virus outbreak and lose contact with S.T.A.R.S HQ.
S.T.A.R.S Alpha team agents Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine are sent on a rescue mission to find S.T.A.R.S Bravo team, who had failed to report back from their initial investigatory mission. Jill and Chris are led to a mansion which is teeming with zombies and other indescribable creatures. Both Jill and Chris soon discover the mansion is a front for a top-secret laboratory owned by the Umbrella Corporation, and the creatures are the results of experiments that they have been performing with the Bio-weapon known as the T-Virus.
After enduring the horrors of the mansion and battling all sorts of T-Virus experiments. Jill and Chris narrowly escape with their lives.
Two months later S.T.A.R.S try to convict the Umbrella Corporation for their experiments with the T-Virus. However, Umbrella have moles within the Racoon City police department and S.T.A.R.S are unable to convict them. Umbrella continues its experiments with the T-Virus in an underground silo. Not all goes to plan for Umbrella as they manage to botch their experiments and leak some of the T-Virus bio weapon into Raccoon City’s sewage system. This leads to the virus spreading throughout Racoon City, with many people fighting for their lives and turning into Zombies.
Leon S Kennedy a rookie cop with the RPD and Claire Redfield are stuck in Raccoon City during the outbreak and have to survive the oncoming zombie hordes and track down Claire’s brother Chris. They soon learn that Chris has left Raccoon City to investigate the Umbrella headquarters in Europe. With no motivation left to stay in the city, the two of them split up to flee the city. Whilst escaping Claire finds Sherry who is on the run from an unknown creature. Leon encounters Ada Wong who claims to be looking for her boy friend who is a researcher for Umbrella.
Claire and Sherry find Police chief Brian Irons, it is revealed that Irons had been bribed by Umbrella to hide evidence of a new virus being developed called the G-Virus. Irons is killed by a G-Virus mutant and Claire and Sherry use the sewer to escape but then become separated.
Ada and Leon come across Sherry’s mother Annette who attempts to kill Ada, but Leon jumps in front of the bullet to save her life. It is also confirmed that Annette is the wife of William Birkin, the scientist who developed the G-Virus. William is also the creature currently pursuing Sherry, after he injected himself with the G-Virus strain. Annette is killed by Ada and she then goes to Leon’s aid.
Claire is reunited with Sherry and the two come up against the now mutated William Birkin. Soon Claire and Sherry find Leon and Ada in a abandoned factory connected to Umbrella’s secret underground research facility. The four of them are chased down by William and Annette. It is also revealed that Ada is in fact a spy sent to steal the G-Virus from an unknown organisation. Ada is assumed dead after saving Leon from a zombie attack. Leon, Claire and Sherry manage to defeat both William and Annette and escape Raccoon City before the airstrike hits.
Ada who is presumed dead, actually survives and manages to leave the city with a sample of the G-Virus.
Beginning 24 hours prior to Resident Evil 2, Jill Valentine attempts to escape Raccoon City in the middle of a T-Virus outbreak. On her way to the police station her teammate is killed by Nemesis a bio-organic weapon programmed to target surviving S.T.A.R.S. members. She narrowly escapes from Nemesis and comes across three members of the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (U.B.C.S) Carlos Oliveira, Mikhail Victor and Nicholai Ginovaef. Nicolai informs Jill that they need to get to the Clock Tower to call a rescue helicopter.
Nicholai disappears on the way to the clock tower and is presumed dead whilst Nemesis catches up with the rest of the team and Jill. Mikhail sacrifices himself in order to save the others. Jill manages to get to the clock tower to signal the rescue helicopter before being confronted by Nemesis once more, who destroys the Helicopter and manages to infect Jill with the T-Virus. Jill manages to defeat Nemesis and passes out, Carlos the remaining U.B.C.S member finds Jill and manages to cure her of the T-Virus 3 days later.
Jill makes her way to Raccoon City Park where she find Nicolai, it is revealed that Nicholai is one of the “supervisors” sent into Raccoon City to gather combat data of Umbrella’s bio-weapons. Nicolia retreats and Jill is confronted by another T-Virus abomination. After the battle, Jill meats Carlos in an abandoned factory where Carlos informs her that an air strike is planned to take out Raccoon City and the T-Virus infestation with it. Jill soon finds out that the airstrike has already begun and they need to escape the city before it is destroyed.
Whilst escaping the city Jill finds Nicholia who reveals that he is only in Raccoon City to collect a bounty that has been put on Jill’s head. She kills Nicolai and then has to face Nemesis one last time. Jill finally defeats Nemesis once and for all with a Prototype rail gun and meets up with Carlos. They both manage to escape the city via helicopter before the airstrike hits.
Claire Redfield who is again on the search for her brother Chris, locates an Umbrella Corporation facility in Paris. During her infiltration of the facility she is knocked out and imprisoned on Rockfort island which is located somewhere in the southern hemisphere.
Time passes and when she eventually comes too she soon realises a T-Virus outbreak has struck Rockfort island. Now trying to escape from the island, Clair teams up with fellow inmate Steve Burnside. Their escape is hindered by Alexia Ashford, a highly unstable schizophrenic who is the result of an experiment conducted by her father, Alexander Ashford. Alexander created the T-Veronica virus in order to make his daughter hyper intelligent, but the results had turned her mad. Eventually Claire and Steve make a bid to escape before being recaptured by an monstrous and highly evolved Alexia
Chris Redfield learns for Leon S Kennedy that Claire has been taken prisoner on Rockford island. Once he gets to the island he is met by Albert Wesker, a former member of the S.T.A.R.S team who injected himself with a prototype virus during Resident Evil 1. Chris is surprised to see him alive with enhanced inhuman skills. Soon the battle between Chris and Wesker is interrupted by Alexia who confirms that Claire is still imprisoned. Chris manages to find Claire and then goes off to confront Alexia
Both Wesker and Chris confront the highly evolved Alexia and manage to defeat her. A battle between Wesker and Chris ensues and before Wesker can kill chris the 2 are split up by a massive explosion, Wesker vows he will satisfy his desire for revenge on Chris soon.
